The Role of a Teacher

" A master can tell you what he expects of you.
a TEACHER, though, awakens your own Expectations."
- Patricia Neal

Tomorrow we attend Zachary's IEP meeting. I have been so grateful for Zachary's current Kindergarten teacher and his past preschool teacher. They recognize his strengths as well as his weaknesses. This past year has been challenging, but well worth all of the effort. Zachary has made tremendous gains and we are very proud of him. As a mother, you always wonder am I making the correct decisions for my child and his educational needs? At times it becomes exhausting, but I have no regrets for the choices that I have made for him. He now reads above grade level and he is above grade level in math. He is such a smart child. At times I wish we could take a trip to Disneyland, own a bigger car, live in a bigger home, but I realize that my biggest investment is making sure that my children have a good quality of life. Never in my life have I been more grateful than to have a degree in special education. It is so easy for me to go into the school and navigate the waters to make sure that Zachary is with a teacher who is able to meet all of his needs. I'm so blessed to have an education. Never in a million years did I think that I would have to use my education so much to help my own child, but now I understand why I earned a degree in that field. It was to educate me so I was able to help educate my son. Again a big thank you to all of Zachary's teachers. They have truly awaken within my child the desire to accomplish his greatest potential!
